DOT & Transportation Manager


Job Description:

Job Description Summary
Support CPI’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values. Manage transportation division. Collaborates merchandising and origination efforts with Grain team. Ensure compliance with CPI policies, regulations, procedures, and practices including all local, state, and federal laws.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 Provide a positive attitude to customers and peers through providing outstanding and courteous customer service.
 Follow the safety guidelines and safety programs established by CPI and complete safety reports and required records.
 Responsible for overseeing Transportation Division operations maximizing employee morale and productivity.
 Train dispatchers and drivers on DOT safety and compliance regulations.
 Ability to develop a solid understanding of CPI’s internal computer systems that affect day to day operations.
 Manage transportation and rolling stock to ensure safe and timely operations.
 Assist in Annual Transportation Budget.
 Develop Transportation P&L.
 Maintain DOT vehicle files.
 Implement procedures and programs in compliance with local, state, and federal agencies.
 Submit and retain quarterly, semi- annual and annual reporting, audit and questionnaire requirements required by external customers, and all other governing agencies.
 Maintain and manage contract driver’s lease agreements.
 Coordinate with DOT personnel to assure proper records and IFTA records are maintained and completed for CPI vehicles.
 Collaborate with Safety Administrative Assistant on DOT driver files.
 Develop and maintain an atmosphere of teamwork among all divisions, locations and company staff.

 Proficient knowledge of business computer skills (Microsoft Office, Accounting, Database and Internet software).
 Excellent business acumen abilities: time management, planning, organization, and decision-making skills.
 Ability to effectively speak / present before top management, board of directors, and internal or external customers.
 Ability to adapt to changing situations.
 Ability to read, write, and speak English.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises the assigned employees. Ensures supervisory responsibilities are in accordance with CPI’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment; such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. May have various types of distractions, interruptions, and noise levels. May be exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and outside weather conditions.

Job Requirements:

Education and Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree from four-year College or University. This position requires at least 4 years of job related experience in DOT compliance but prefers 8+ years. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Required: Valid Driver’s License.
